Introduction:

Job Description:

  • Responsible for case identification and ongoing maintenance of data on all cancer patients in accordance with the Cancer Program Standards as set forth by the ACoS Commission on Cancer and the Pennsylvania Cancer Registry regulations.
  • Accurately abstracts and records a complete summary of the history, diagnosis, treatment and disease status for every cancer patient which includes over 150 data items.
  • Maintains expected productivity targets.
  • Assists with quality review of NCDB’s Cancer Program Practice Profile Reports (CP3R): Breast and Colorectal.
  • Attends site-specific cancer conferences, documents pertinent information regarding cases identified, clinical staging and treatment options.
  • Pursues continuing education relevant to practice to maintain, strengthen and broaden knowledge base, and maintain CTR credential.

Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent understanding of medical terminology as well as anatomy and physiology.
  • Graduate of cancer registry or health information management academic program preferred.
  • Must be a Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR).
  • RHIA, RHIT, CCS also preferred but not required.
  • Maintains CTR status by attending conferences, training sessions and workshops necessary to keep present on policies and procedures

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Must have (2) two years working experience in a remote or onsite tertiary care hospital in an American College of Surgeons (ACoS) approved registry.
  • Thorough understanding of human disease processes; computer applications MS Word, Excel, and medical records database /system; accurate keyboarding skills; verbal and written communication skills on a level to work actively with medical and professional staff; team-building and problem-solving skills.
  • Must also become and maintain active membership in PACR within 12 months of hire

Education Qualifications:

Graduate of cancer registry or health information management academic program preferred. Must be a Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR). RHIA, RHIT, CCS also preferred but not required.
